It is a New Year, which means New Year Resolution time. You may have decided to save more money or see your friends and family more, but the likelihood is you’ve probably chosen to be healthier. If you have and you’re wondering where to start and how to stick to it, then don’t worry as we have got five tips to help you achieve those goals.
Start by adding the times you’re going to exercise into your diary or your phone calendar. That way, you are more likely to stick to it and less likely to skip it and meet your friends for a drink.
Try replacing your morning biscuits or your afternoon chocolate bar with a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts. The likelihood is it will make you feel better and make you feel fuller, reducing the chances of returning to the biscuit tin for round two.
Who doesn’t feel better after being outside? Just going for a walk, gardening, or sitting on a park bench will reward you with a little bit of nature, get some fresh air into your lungs and improve your mental wellbeing.
While it’s tempting to jump straight in and try 5 workouts a week or eat healthily every meal, smaller steps are more sustainable and allow you to build gradually. Try two or three workouts and increase them as the weeks go on, or start ensuring you eat your five a day and go from there.
It’s still important to give yourself time to relax, recover, and re-energise. Whether that’s meditating, taking a bath, reading, or watching your favourite tv program, giving yourself some time on your own allows you to breathe and clear your mind.
